One Day Without Shoes, April 5 - Hansen Surfboard plans to go Barefoot to Raise Awareness.



ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to raise awareness for One Day Without Shoes.



Research by the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that many kids round the world do not own a pair of shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.



"We are participating in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to walk into our store and ask why everyone seems to be barefoot," said Josh Hansen. "We are doing this for the people who are going barefoot because they have got no choice. The impact of two shoes could be huge on an individual’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before."



To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to drop off their superfluous shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a brand new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated at the store.



"The donated shoes add up pretty quickly, so whenever we are not able to keep any more of them gathered in the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas towing a trailer full of the shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them," added Josh. "Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It is certainly one of our favorite programs here because we know it has such a huge impact."
